Section 508 Subject Matter Expert - Policy & Process

Serve as a Section 508 Program Expert - Duties and Responsibilities include: 1) Establishing and maintaining Section 508 policies and governance documents that provide clarity, direction, authority, and set expectations, 2) Identifying and assisting in the correction of Section 508 non-compliant content and working with Census Bureau customers to remediate the issue using training and coaching 3) Engaging with internal and external customers on Section 508 compliance matters, and 4) Testing internally developed applications for Section 508 compliance and producing Section 508 compliance reports, establishing milestones for a corrective plan of action, and monitoring progress.

Initial primary focus is on establishing 508 branch - charter, policies, documentation and governance.  Provide consultative services regarding charter development, policy, process and governance for 508 implementation.  Provide managerial and administrative oversight in subject matter area.  Make recommendations and advise on organization-wide system improvements, optimization or maintenance efforts as relates to 508.

Project management abilities desired, e.g., developing and executing schedules, status reports, budget management, and stakeholder communication.

Will perform most duties at the client site.  Travel is infrequent.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum/General Experience: Five (5) or more years of work experience in computer systems with at least three (3) years of solid system and network administration experience.

Experience establishing and maintaining Section 508 capabilities within an organization.  Experience with developing governance, policy and documentation; coordination across stakeholders; overseeing team and implementation of guidance.  Experience in training and coaching on compliance matters.  Experience serving on steering committees, boards, councils.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related scientific or technical discipline and 5 years’ experience. Acceptable substitute would be 8 years directly related experience.
